Indigo plants are used to create an iconic blue pigment that has been used to dye fabrics for centuries. In this class, students will learn about the history, science, and process of indigo dyeing, while experimenting with an all-natural indigo dye vat. Students will bring their own fabrics to dye and will take home a unique piece. vat.

Notes:For this class, you will need to bring your own fabric for in class experimenting. Please come to class with approximately 1 yard of fabric and/or small clothing items. Upcycled fabric like clothes, sheets, pillow cases, etc are encouraged! It is important that the material is made out of 100% natural fibers such as cotton, silk, wool, rayon, linen. Synthetics like polyester or nylon will not dye. If you are interested in buying new fabric, you can look at suppliers such as Mood Fabrics, Trumart Fabrics, Michaels, Dharma Trading, Organic Cotton Plus, etc.
