Rendering Water in Works of Art

Rendering Water

Class: Rendering Water in Works of Art. Image by John William Edy, Romantic Bridge, near Skeen, 1800.

Water, like air, is an element we consider to have neither color nor shape. Artists approach the challenges of rendering water in many ways. In this workshop, we will closely examine diverse techniques of many successful artists (such as Homer, Turner, Rembrandt, da Vinci, Hockney, and Hokusai) who have interpreted water in prints, drawings, and paintings. This workshop will include drawing exercises in class and culminate with painting and sketching the Garden’s wonderful water features.
