Winter Greens in Watercolor
Class: Winter Greens in Watercolor. Image by Elizabeth O'Reilly.
This workshop focuses on painting seasonal motifs such as holly and other cool-season greens and on discovering color in winter branches through a combination of loose and controlled watercolor techniques. Emphasis will be on massing in layered, transparent washes with a gradual buildup of detail through color and tone. The particular qualities of various pigments will be examined and incorporated to build up areas of transparency and opacity while also attending to composition and rhythm. Students will receive individual attention and instruction as well as group critiques at the end of the workshop. There will be a brief demonstration for those who are unfamiliar with the medium.
