Class: Caffeinated Plants. Photo by BBG staff.
Guaraná, cola, cacao, yerba mate—caffeine is in more than your morning latte. This powerful, naturally occurring psychoactive substance is found in many plants that have been used for millennia to enhance medicine, diet, and religious practice. A lecture, demonstrations, and an interactive “edible lab” introduce you to botanical nomenclature, modern medicine, traditional cultural practices, and the ethnobotany of these fascinating and economically important species.
