Drawing Nature with Intention (ONLINE)
Let a beloved houseplant, a favored bowl for fruit, a vase of flowers or even a tree outside your window inspire you to continue to make art independently during this winter of confinement. This class will offer supportive ideas to guide assembling still lifes that are intriguing and visually exciting, while helping you choose formal drawing issues to focus on.
Students will receive a suggestion list of drawing concepts as well as practical considerations to help selecting still life subjects. Each participant will be asked to email the instructor in advance of the class a photo of the setup to be used, taken from the same angle of view and eye level as when doing the artwork, to get input and recommendations. Further adjustments can be made during class, so that the group can share and benefit from one another’s process. In this small class, individual contact will be offered throughout, and there will be a group critique at the end.
Any drawing medium is acceptable for this class, including color media such as pastels. Paper can be whatever size you are comfortable with and should be appropriate to the media you are using. You should have a pad or sheet of inexpensive paper and a pencil of any kind for warm-up compositional sketches, and an eraser.
