Painting Water with Watercolor

Painting Water with Watercolor
Elizabeth O'Reilly, Carroll St. Bridge Reflections.

The theme of water and the medium of watercolor are a perfect match, marrying the looseness and flickering possibilities of each. Focusing on the Japanese Garden and Lily Pool Terrace, this workshop will look at the various ways we can represent water. We will look at patterns and how they repeat, whether in still or rushing water. We will paint reflections with loose and controlled watercolor techniques focusing on simplifying shapes to create the illusion of water. Massing in a single layered, transparent wash initially, we will build detail of reflections through color, tone, and line direction. Students will receive individual attention and instruction, as well as group critiques at the end of the workshop. There will be a brief demonstration for those who are unfamiliar with the medium.
